Special Investigation Service

The establishment of the State Inspector Service on November 1, 2019, was, on the one hand, a public demand, and, on the other hand, one of Georgia’s commitments under the Association Agreement with the European Union. On March 11 2022, an independent body, the Special Investigation Service, was launched on the basis of the State Inspector Service.
The Special Investigation Service is investigating the crimes provided for by the Criminal Code of Georgia, committed on November 1, 2019, and in the subsequent period by a representative, an employee or a person equivalent to one of a law enforcement agency.
The Service also conducts investigations regarding violations of the Convention on the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms or its Additional Protocol established by the legally binding decision of the European Court of Human Rights.
As of February 28, 2022, 100 employees were employed in the service.
From March to December 2022, 2514 reports were received by the Service.
